El Times Higher Education porta un interessant article titulat Embrace an old-timer now que parla dels “Old Time Professors” (Professors d’una Altra Època), que es caracteritzen per bona feina, estar molt conscienciats pels estudiants, estar compromesos amb l’excel.lència acadèmic i la prosperitat, i ser servidors primer, i líders després. Amb una mica de sàtira, l’articulista americà Jeffrey Ros diu que
The OTPs attend conferences centred on their discipline or areas of expertise, but avoid college Burning Man gatherings. They have embraced teaching-learning processes enhanced by technology but avoid its acculturating side-effects – they understand that accessing information is not the same as knowledge and intelligence.
The OTPs will give their students an appropriate answer to a question without a textbook, a website, without a global hermeneutic circle – probably because at the onset of their careers they ardently joined the Community of Scholars, not the Community of Dollars.
If you know an OTP, give him a hug today. You will see fewer and fewer of the species. Those jackets with the elbow patches and meerschaum pipes have really gone out of style!
Segurament aquest tipus de persones molt conscienciades per la docència, per l’acadèmic, per la saviesa, i que no poden fàcilment atrapar la dinàmica complexa de la nova societat que funciona en part via Internet, són una espècia a reconèixer, a respectar i a emular. Però també les coses canvien.
Fins i tot cal pensar en persones que poden tenir un modus de viure adequat a altres estils, com per exemple a l’SlowDown, un moviement que no desitja seguir la voràgines de les Xarxes Socials, la Web 2.0, el dia de 24 hores treballant (és una exageració per part meva, però a vegades pot semblar que sigui així).
Cal trobar la forma de compatiblitzar, casar, compaginar i conciliar les activitats 0.x, 1.y i 2.0.
