A part del Grup Russell d’universitats (20 centres) del Regne Unit (el més selecte), hi ha un altre grup de 19 universitats britàniques ben interessant: el grup 1994. Una de les universitats que hi ha, per exemple, és la Universitat de Bath , que podria una mica comparar-se a la Universitat de Girona.
Aquest grup sembla tenir per principal interès la discussió del futur de l’educació superior (que si a Catalunya és rellevant pels canvis que s’hi estan vivint, a UK pateix una transformació molt superior). En aquest sentit, el grup 1994 té tres vessants d’estudi: recerca i empresa, experiència de l’estudiant, i planíficació estratègica i recursos :
The 1994 Group has three policy groups below Board level. These are: Research and Enterprise; Student Experience; and Strategic Planning and Resources. The policy groups provide an essential avenue through which the group can strengthen inter- institutional activity and provide a forum for the development of longer-term policy.
Aquest grup d’universitats té una bona pàgina amb publicacions obre els seus tres grans projectes: http://www.1994group.ac.uk/publications. Per exemple, un de relació amb la societat: Widening Participation through targeted outreach programmes’. Apart, té un directori de projectes de recerca on hi ha blogs força rellevants. Per exemple, a http://www.1994group.net/blogs/harriet/ (@HarrietatBath) on aquesta investigadora intenta promoure el bon ús de les TIC per millorar l’experiència dels estudiants, i també per a difondre adequadament els materials elaborats pel Grup 1994.
La pista per conèixer aquest grup d’universitats britàniques me l’ha donada un post del THE on diu que el grup 1994 té nou director, en vistes del nou “Llibre Blanc” de la Universitat britànica:
Predicting that the upcoming White Paper could be a “game changer” for all UK universities, Professor Farthing said his aim as chair would be to ensure that the opinions of the 19 institutions that make up the 1994 Group are heard in the debates on the future of the sector. He added that he also hoped the 1994 Group would set an example that would be “followed throughout higher education”
Per cert, m’ha agradat com la Universitat de York presenta les seves diferents aliances (partnerships) que té, a la seva pàgina, entre elles lògicament les del grup 1994. Però n’hi ha de locals, regionals, internacionals… un bon exemple a seguir.
