Al Guardian Higher Education Network hi ha un article de Satwinder Samra titulat “All together now: how to build a social campus” amb el subtítol Awkward, disconnected, chilly spaces keep conversations to a minimum. A well-designed university makes room for people to share ideas.
Aquest article, dins d’un pensament arquitectònic, defensa la importància d’espais de socialització oberts que permetn interactuar però també veure com s’interactua. S’hi esmenta per exemple poder organitzar el treball de forma oberta en més d’un pis. Una mica em recorda l’espai de relació de l’edifici de Dret de la UdG. I sobretot em recorda la biblioteca de Montilivi, amb els seus tres pisos on des de dalt es té una perspectiva dels dos pisos de baix.
With the rise of social media and the ability to work and learn remotely, the boundaries of the campus now stretch far beyond the physical infrastructure. But there is no reason that the real estate itself should be available only to staff and students.
There is enormous potential to open up facilities to the public throughout the year. Universities can become real public buildings for exchange, collaboration and celebration in the same way that town halls, libraries and municipal buildings once were.
This altruistic offer to citizens would no doubt have positive repercussions in relation to engagement, impact, employability and widening participation. It’s an intergenerational opportunity that should be embraced by universities, a chance to allow all the inhabitants of a community (not just its students) to benefit everything an open campus has to give.
Els edificis de la UdG estan tancats el cap de setmana. I a més, els dies de cada dia no ofereixen gaire activitats per als ciutadans, més enllà de la funció primordial per a la qual estan pensats. A les ciutats hi ha altres equipaments pensats per als ciutadans: centres cívics, biblioteques, … Caldria pensar com poden els edificis del campus connectar millor amb la xarxa d’edificis que contribueixen a la socialització. Però està clar que hi ha un gran potencial si s’obren físcament a la societat. Amb el pressupost adequat, és clar.
